Ikea has launched its 2026 PS Collection, featuring 44 new pieces designed for playful functionality and home-office use, available starting May 14. The collection includes innovative furniture like inflatable chairs, foldable desks, and whimsical storage solutions, aimed at blending practicality with playful design.
The 2026 PS Collection, Ikea’s tenth in the series since its inception in 1995, introduces a variety of versatile furniture tailored for home offices and living spaces. Key pieces include a chair-bed by Matilda Lindstam Nilsson, available in red and white, which transforms from a chair to a full-length bed with pocket springs. Ola Wihlborg designed a collapsible four-seater desk that folds flat with large red wing screws, emphasizing practicality and affordability.
Additional notable items include a pink metal mesh cabinet with a lockable handle, a whimsical birdhouse-inspired bedside table with hidden storage, and a flexible lamp designed in collaboration with Lex Pott, featuring 45-degree swivel points to switch between uplighter, spotlight, and reading light modes. Mikael Axelsson created a ratchet mechanism stool, inspired by woodworking tools, which was tested by his children for durability. The collection also features a rocking wooden bench designed by Marta Krupińska, which overcame early challenges with its strength, and a steel and aluminum clock resembling a submarine periscope, designed by Krupińska.
Why It Matters
This collection signifies Ikea’s continued focus on blending playful, innovative design with practical, affordable furniture suited for modern home offices. As remote work becomes more prevalent, such versatile pieces could influence future furniture trends, emphasizing both functionality and fun in everyday spaces.
Moreover, the collection demonstrates Ikea’s commitment to sustainability and recycling, particularly in the design of the rocking bench, which balances durability with eco-friendly materials. The collection’s playful aesthetic aims to appeal to a broad audience seeking stylish yet practical home solutions.

Background
Ikea first introduced the PS series in the early 1990s as a response to its Scandinavian roots and minimalist aesthetic. The 2026 edition marks the tenth iteration of this recurring collection, which combines low prices with creative design. The collection’s launch follows a period of increased focus on home workspace needs due to the rise of remote work, making these designs particularly timely.
The collection previewed at Milan Design Week in April, showcasing prototypes like the inflatable chair and the wooden rocking bench. The full collection will be available in stores from May 14 and online from May 22, continuing Ikea’s tradition of offering affordable, design-forward furniture.
